Can you believe the new year is almost here? Neither can we! The holidays came and went in a rush, and now here we are, making our New Year\u2019s resolutions.<\/p>\n

While a lot of people are making plans to hit the gym and cut calories, there\u2019s an overlooked source of this time-honored tradition: your home.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a lot to procrastinate on regarding your home. However, much-needed home repairs or upgrades don\u2019t get better with time. This year, it could just be a loose shingle which could turn into an ice dam next year!<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why we\u2019re recommending some New Year\u2019s resolutions for your home. By implementing these five resolutions, you can save money, time, and your sanity. You an even improve the quality of your home<\/p>\n

1. Cut down on energy use<\/h4>\n

One great way to cut down on energy use is to make sure your windows<\/a> and doors<\/a> are free from drafts. If you notice that a room with a window, entry door, or sliding door is chillier in the winter and balmy in the summer, a draft in the window or door could be the culprit. Worse? The draft is driving up your energy bills! Resolve to cut your energy usage and spending by addressing drafts this year.<\/p>\n

2. Go low maintenance<\/h4>\n

An easy way to do that is to inspect your siding<\/a> and roofing<\/a> and see if anything needs to be repaired. Better yet, if you have older siding or roofing that needs to be replaced, now\u2019s the time to invest in siding that will lower your energy bill, be better equipped at keeping out the elements, including pests, and last longer so you won\u2019t have to make repairs or replacements as often.<\/p>\n

3. Let the Sunshine in!<\/h4>\n

Getting more sunshine and fresh air is a great New Year\u2019s Resolution. Whether you want to spend more time in nature, away from your screen, or just working out in the Great Outdoors, sunshine has some physical health benefits (in moderation), and a ton of mental and emotional benefits.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s be honest. Michigan isn\u2019t great for everyone to get outside all times of the year, especially people susceptible to slip and falls in the winter and extreme temperatures in the winter and summer. Plus, sometimes, you don\u2019t want to leave your comfy home. The good news? You don\u2019t need to. If you have a sunroom in your home, you can enjoy the sunshine without needing to step outside.<\/p>\n

4. Upgrade that bathroom<\/h4>\n
