\u201cJingle Bells\u201d Was Supposed to Be a Thanksgiving Song<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Music has a magical way of capturing the spirit of the season. That\u2019s particularly true of the Christmas classic, “Jingle Bells.” Surprisingly, this catchy tune wasn\u2019t originally intended to be a Christmas carol, but a song to be sung on Thanksgiving Day.<\/p>\n

Written in 1857 by composer James Pierpont under the title “One Horse Open Sleigh,” it was meant to help ring in the winter season \u2013 but almost immediately became popular as a Christmas anthem. The people had spoken. The song\u2019s name was eventually changed to “Jingle Bells,” and its enduring popularity continues to be a staple of the holidays.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A Presidential Pardon <\/strong><\/h3>\n

In the fall of 1926, President Calvin Coolidge was presented with a peculiar gift. A raccoon. But this was no ordinary gift \u2013 it was meant to be his Thanksgiving meal.<\/p>\n

But the President (who wasn\u2019t too thrilled at the prospect of feasting on a raccoon for the holiday), chose to pardon the animal of its pending fate. He and his wife Grace named the raccoon Rebecca and welcomed it into the White House as a pet.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

How the Turkey Got Its Name<\/strong><\/h3>\n

So why do we call a turkey a turkey? Does it have anything to do with the country of Turkey? Sort of! The history of the turkey\u2019s name is a tale of mistaken identity.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of years ago, Europeans were introduced to a curious-looking guinea fowl imported from Northern Africa. Sold by Turkish traders, the birds quickly became known as \u201cturkey-hens\u201d and \u201cturkey-cocks\u201d.<\/p>\n

Later on, when American settlers sent back birds that were similar in appearance to the North African \u201cturkey.\u201d And so, everyone started referring to the North American birds as \u201cturkeys\u201d too. The name stuck. And the rest is delicious history.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Leftovers Are the Best<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Thanksgiving is a holiday filled with tradition and delicious food, but did you know that the majority of Americans seem to prefer the leftovers? It’s true! 70% of Americans<\/a><\/strong> surveyed said they feel leftovers taste better than the original feast.<\/p>\n

There’s something about reheating a plate of turkey and sides that just hits the spot. Maybe it’s the convenience of having a ready-made meal that requires no effort \u2013 or perhaps it’s the nostalgia of quietly reliving a great experience all over again. Whatever the reason may be, it’s clear that Thanksgiving leftovers hold a special place in our hearts, and our stomachs.<\/p>\n
